The Egypt Nanotechnology Center seeks a highly qualified system administrator to manage the newly
acquired High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster system. The theoretical peak performance of this
cluster is about 35 TFlops. The cluster will be used primarily for advanced multi-scale parallel simulations
in Nanotechnology research and development projects.
B. Job Responsibilities
1- Manage and audit internal and external users.
2- Actively ensure that data center environment and facilities (e.g., cooling, networking, and power) are constantly maintained in proper operating conditions.
3- Benchmark and periodically monitor all relevant indicators and measures of cluster performance and proper hardware and software operation.
4- Work with Dell customer service and technical support teams to identify and resolve problems.
5- Perform regular system administration tasks, such as scheduled backup of system and user data, user support, preventive measures and first level troubleshooting of system failures, availability of networking
and communications services and equipment, etc.
6- Present detailed monthly status and activity reports.
7- Provide technical advice related to possible cluster expansion and system upgrade.
8- Handle user complaints via e-mail and mobile phone (urgent matters only) according to EGNC operating
instructions, which may require night and weekend shifts, response to emergencies within strictly limited delays, etc.
C. Minimum Qualifications Required
1- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
2- At least five years experience in various aspects of data center operation, preferably including three
years or more in HPC system administration and troubleshooting of large scale cluster systems hardware, software, and internal/external communication networks.
3- Deep knowledge of Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred).
4- Evidence of strong personal abilities, such as working with a team of diverse individuals, delivering
results and executing plans, ethical conduct, respect of confidentiality, problem solving, creativity and resourcefulness, etc.
5- Strong skills in efficient scripting using Bash, Perl, and Python.
6- Strong experience in parallel programming using Fortran, C, and C++
7- Proven ability to build, optimize, debug, and profile parallel code.
D. Preferred Additional Qualifications
1- Deep experience in job scheduling algorithms.
2- Advanced degree in a scientific field with experience in an R&D organization.
3- Experience with installing and running scientific computing software and experience with scientific data or numerical analysis.
